BOJATI Report Christmas 2023

Dear BOJATI helpers!

Message for the Christmas report (December 22, 2023)

I am happy that it was possible to organize a simple 2-day Christmas camp in a hostel in Ukunda again this year. For the kids, these are the only holidays and it promotes the cohesion and exchange of our BOJATI youth. Lenox does this brilliantly. I have nothing to add to Lenox’s report. He says it all and gives us an insightful insight into the life of our BOJATI youth in Kenya. A country that is foreign to many of us. When a tourist experiences a safari in one of the many, huge national parks, the incredible encounters with wild animals, the vast nature and the unique overnight stays in the luxurious tented camps, then the impressions are overwhelming. To end the unique adventure in a great hotel on the white, endless coast of Diani Beach with a cocktail and all the comforts is wonderful and I can only recommend it.

Touristic Kenya is at its best. You don’t see much of people’s lives, even for safety reasons. As a BOJATI helper you have the opportunity to get to know more than just touristy Kenya with us. Above all, because our project helps those who would otherwise not be able to help themselves. Countless children end up without a school education as tomato sellers or beggars on the streets, for example. Many can’t read, do math and write and, like Father Abdilahi, end up as a day laborer for $1 jobs. I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say that our BOJATI youth would have been on this hopeless path if we hadn’t launched the BOJATI project 13 years ago.

We are small and, as Lenox mentions, „just a drop in the desert“. But for those we can and have been able to support, we are hope and confidence for a life of opportunity. For example, our Bijuma (eldest daughter of father Abdilahi and banished to the slums with her siblings after the death of mother Mary) is now a primary school teacher and can support Jamila in her IT course. On behalf of everyone (Lenox, Jamila, Tino, Paulo, Zippy, Omar, Leon, Bijuma, Levi and James) I thank you from the bottom of my heart! We still have a long way to go. And with your help, further successes.

I wish you all a Merry Christmas, relaxing holidays and a healthy, happy New Year!

Best regards,
